Cold Wind Ripping Through the Alley at Dawn

Kansas City, there I went.  You could almost say that I didn't have a monster delay between the last time I puked up some thoughts here and this time.  I mean, three weeks of tournaments in a row and I really just got back a couple of days ago.  What a bunch of golf.  Uhmm, no, let's try that again.  What a bunch of just plain godawful golf.  Hmm, better.

I learned that I have the privilege of being ranked 1798th in the world, according to the new PDGA ratings.  Of course, only 3567 people have ratings, but that's beside the point.  I prefer to look at it as if I beat out the other 6 billion or so.   I mean, really, if you're looking at the grand scope of things, me and Climo are effectively tied.  What's it matter if you're beating 6,000,001,769 or if you're beating 6,000,003,566?

Todd's 2469th, hey, let's do the whole dern Team Lynx...

 Cam 1008 14th
 Ryan 975 191st
 James 967 295th
 Dickie 944 752nd
 Doug 909 1798th
 Todd 883 2469th

But I'm movin' up.   I hope to break into the top 1750 by the end of the year.

Rugby's starting up for the summer, so I'll finally be getting some exercise and hopefully lose some of this gut and add some leg strength.  I can't quite decide whether I'll be in better shape and, thus, play better, or whether I'll hurt myself and be unable to play at all.  It's pretty much a toss-up, but I think I'll chance it, eh?

Sounds like Dickie's off the tour, leaving Cam and Leslie.  Which sorta sucks, but hey, at least he got to do it for a while.  I'm almost positive I wouldn't like touring all the time, I like being home too much, even if I don't really do much while I'm here.

Anybody notice that Flo was tied with Julianna Bower after the 2nd round in Peoria? Which isn't so strange, except that they probably played in the same group on Sunday.  It was the first ratings based supertour, which is an interesting idea.  Taking first the assumption that the ratings accurately reflect a person's skill, they take everyone of like skill and stick 'em in the same division, ignoring age and sex.  Which is very cool.  The only problem I see is that the divisions look awfully small.  I haven't seen the payout from Peoria, so I'm not sure how that worked, but I have my doubts.    I mean, I'm pretty sure I'd've wanted to play in the best division, even though my rating would've put me in the 3rd or 4th tier (not sure what the breakdowns are), probably "Bronze" for me (looks like they have Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Ferrite for pros and a slew of colors for ams).

Uhmmm.  I might have to get back to work on my own rating system, the Inverted Suck Quotient.  It's been sitting in the closet gathering dust (and maybe even rotting a little bit) for a while, now.

I think I'm really going to enjoy these next couple of weeks of not going anywhere.  I probably won't even come to atlanta for doubles, certainly not redan on tuesday because of rugby practice, and that's the best of the doubles things.  Hmm, we'll see.

(Oh, and yeah, I know we were in KC and not St. Louis, but it's Missouri, what's the difference?  Consider it some free advertising to the six people who actually read this stuff for Gateway)
